First Nations IT company Yirigaa implements OpenText to build community capability
Providing opportunities and access to more technology for Australian First Nations people.
Aboriginal Australian-owned digital technology company Yirigaa has partnered with OpenText to enhance opportunities for Indigenous communities through AI and data management.
According to OpenText, this strategic partnership represents an “important step” in bridging the technological gap in access, resources, and opportunities for First Nations leaders and organisations.
By combining OpenText’s advanced data management and AI analytics capabilities with Yirigaa’s culturally informed digital solutions, the partnership will deliver tailored technological and cybersecurity solutions while creating pathways for talent development.
Yirigaa customers – especially Indigenous organisations and enterprises – will gain access to scalable technology and support.
Yawun Mundine, CEO at Yirigaa told CRN Australia this partnership directly contributes to building community capability.
“Through Yirigaa Academy, we’ll train the next generation of Indigenous tech professionals using OpenText’s platforms, while also creating career pathways into secure, future-focused jobs,” he said.
“This is about breaking down barriers and building long-term economic empowerment through skills and opportunity.”
Founded in 2020, Yirigaa aims to create sustinable, inclusive digital futures for first nations communities.
Mundine chose OpenText due to their “genuine commitment to collaboration, capability building, and social impact”.
“This partnership also represents a major step forward for the Yirigaa Academy, as we align with a global tech leader to support training, mentorship, and real-world experience for Indigenous talent,” he said.
Joshua Wiles, director, channel & alliances ANZ, OpenText said, “Our partnership with Yirigaa represents a meaningful step in empowering First Nations communities through technology.
“By working together, we are creating new opportunities for Indigenous leaders and organisations to thrive in the digital landscape while ensuring cultural integrity and long-term impact.”
The Indigenous-led IT company has collaborated with government, education, and industry partners before, Mundine explained that this partnership with OpenText marks a “new kind of strategic alignment—one that integrates technology, education, and community outcomes”.
“It's the first time a partnership has extended so directly into the fabric of our Yirigaa Academy program, helping us co-create a pipeline from education to employment in the tech space for Indigenous Australians,” he said.
For the next 12 months, Yirigaa will be focusing on embedding OpenText technologies into both community projects and the Yirigaa Academy cirriculum.
“We’ll co-design tailored learning pathways, deliver pilot programs across regional and urban Indigenous communities, and create hands-on training labs using real-world business challenges,” Mundine said.
“The goal is to have Yirigaa Academy graduates stepping into high-value tech roles—either within OpenText’s ecosystem or in their own entrepreneurial ventures. This is about future-proofing our communities, together.”
The word Yirigaa means “Morning Star” in the Wiradjuri language, which symbolises the dawn of new beginnings and the promise of opportunities.
